Armed Forces Day
On Saturday 25th June, locations around the United Kingdom were proudly showing their support for Armed Forces Day – and Ilchester was no exception!
Tall Trees Community Centre, Ilchester hosted the event and Yeovilton Military Wives Choir was invited to perform in front of the local families that had come to support Armed Forces Day.
The choir gathered to do an outside performance of some of the Choir’s popular songs which included “Sing”, “Wherever You Are” and “Stronger Together” – the latter of which echoes the sentiments of Armed Forces Day as well as the ethos of the Military Wives Choir Foundation – “together we are stronger” – as well as performing the crowd pleasing “Tipperary Medley” and “Vera Lynn Medley”.
After the choir had performed, the opportunity was taken to raise a toast to honour Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th Birthday which the choir led with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.
As well as performing at the event, the choir also held a Tombola to raise funds help support the choir and a refreshment stall which provided tea, coffee and soft drinks as well as homemade cakes from the choir to raise funds in support of SSAFA’s “Big Brew Up” – the cakes were delicious!
Ilchester and the surrounding towns and villages are a proud military community – Saturday 25th June displayed this pride and patriotism and Yeovilton Military Wives Choir were privileged to play a part in it and to support our local community. We raised £216.70 & presented the cheque to our local SSAFA rep Peter Moulding.
