Farewell '18 Welcome '19
Yeovilton Military Wives Choir was set up to bring women in the military community closer together through singing. There are no auditions required and no need to read music. All you need is a military connection. Our choir is now in its seventh year!
2018 saw three poignant 100 year anniversaries, all of which meant something to the ladies in our choir. It saw the anniversaries of the end of World War 1, the formation of the Royal Air Force and of women's right to vote. The choir helped to mark the centenary of the end of World War 1 by joining other Military Wives Choirs in a special commemorative project to create an album with Remembrance at its heart. The album was recorded in January and February in locations around the UK and was released in June - 'Remember' is a terrific album featuring four exciting new commissions by prestigious composers and which is for sale at selected outlets.
As well as a very busy October and November, when the choir took part in five Remembrance events, it is wonderful to reflect on the rest of the year and to see what we achieved. We had concerts or events each month (apart from March when our guest appearance with The Royal Marines Association Concert Band was postponed until May because of the snow). Alongside our yearly events, including our very own concert at The Octagon Theatre in Yeovil in February, we took part in Somerset Day in Wells, sang at one of our member's wedding vow renewal, helped to launch Radio Ninesprings in Yeovil, and also held our very first Christmas concert at Westlands. We rounded off the year with a very moving concert at St Margaret's Hospice.
As ever we have been sorry to see members go on to pastures new but also delighted to welcome other new ladies with open arms.
Thank you to all our families, friends and fans for supporting us in all that we do and see you in 2019!
